Sayyidi Younus AlGohar’s thought-provoking lesson on character education.

Summary:

- Mostly, ethical and moral values come from religions. Every society has different social principles and etiquettes which are dictated by people’s temperament. However, character is none of the above-mentioned things; rather, it is a spiritual attire. This includes having empathy - feeling the pain of others - and treating others well despite them mistreating you.

- Character education is not possible; your character is based on your soul. Only the Devout Believers can reform their characters because this is part of faith. The Predestined Loving Souls, even if they don’t follow a religion, can be recognised from afar because of their natural inclination to help others and have empathy. The Predestined Hell-Bound Souls have vices in their soul’s nature.

- The Koran said that Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) has an exceptional character. Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said that he was created with God’s light and the Devout Believers were created with his light. This was a reference to the fact that the Devout Believers would be enlightened through Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)’s divine energy; as a result, they would also inherit Prophet Mohammad (PBUH)’s character.

- Nations are not recognised based on their culture or ethnicity in the eyes of God, but rather their connection to their Messenger and God. According to the Koran, in the end times, God shall send His nation who will love God and God will love them.

- Prophet Mohammad (PBUH) said that modesty is part of the faith; therefore, only one who is a Devout Believer will have modesty. You cannot teach anyone modesty - this is a moral aspect or one’s nature when they have divine energy. Similarly, Jesus Christ said to turn the other cheek when someone slaps your cheek. This is not advice that you can follow practically - rather, it relates to the state of your soul.

- Character education does not practically exist. To revive your attributes, you have to awaken your soul. Your character is linked to your soul. Before you adopt spirituality, your true character will not show. Even the characters of the unenlightened Predestined Loving Souls will be hidden by the impurities of their Lower Selves; this will be removed with divine energy.

- The world thinks that teaching social etiquettes is part of character reformation. Every country has its own false standard of etiquettes that people follow. They go through a process of evolution; they are changeable. However, true character does not change - it all depends on the nature of your soul. Your character is based on how God created you.
